The Los Angeles music scene has had a secret to tell for years. An aggressive presence has moved through Hollywood clubs and onto hundreds of stages worldwide for the past 7 years converting thousands of club-goers into devout fans. The secret: Stavesacre.
Stavesacre has long been considered by Southern California music press and thousands of ardent fans to be ìthe best band youíve never heard ofî due to the groupís fervent underground following coupled with its technical songwriting, musicianship and prevailing live performances. Stavesacre joined forces with Nitro Records in early 2002 to produce their debut Nitro release and fourth album ñ a phonetically-titled, breakthrough rock tour de force dubbed ì .î The bandís latest rock collage is destined to take the band from underground club powerhouse to world-renown status.
ìThis is the hardest weíve ever worked at crafting our songs,î said frontman Mark Salomon, whose lyrical prowess and powerful vocals on the album range from serene beauty to the unadulterated passion and ferocity. ìWeíre more comfortable with our musical identity than ever before.î
Stavesacre, named after a rare and beautiful poisonous flower, was birthed in 1995 by a collective of artists from the burgeoning Orange County music scene. The group formed with a shared vision for creating a band that would rise above the landscape du jour to communicate a greater concept of the perfect rock album. The bandís first three albums, Friction, Absolutes and Speakeasy (Tooth & Nail Records), SoundScanned over 90,000 records. During this short 3-album run, ìThe Acreî, as they are often referred to by loyal fans, also garnered a solid domestic fan-base spanning from coast-to-coast as well as abroad in rock-aware, soundboard countries such as Sweden and Germany.
The band has toured maniacally since first forming, playing 100-150 shows a year in 48 states (including Hawaii and Alaska) and throughout Europe, with a stated commitment to delivering the best rock performances possible every night they take the stage. Most recently their touring resume has included a P.O.D. album release party, 30 dates with Project 86 (Atlantic Records) and a stint on the 2002 Vans Warped Tour as well as a six-week club tour of their own. The fruit of their passion and labor is what has been argued to be one of the best live acts in contemporary rock.
Now with the backing of Nitro Records, the world at large will have the opportunity to experience the power and melodic beauty of the Stavesacre sound. The bandís unique sound is born of an almost scientific appreciation of their musical influences ranging from Black Sabbath, Quicksand, Fugazi, and The Smashing Pumpkins all the way to Duran Duran and U2.
The bandís fourth body of work, Stavesacre, is appropriately self-titled in that this album marks the groupís long overdue introduction to a larger market of rock enthusiasts. This polished collection of tracks treats new and existing fans to the bandís distinct brand of conscientious songwriting, meaningful content, sophisticated structure, huge guitars and evocative melodies better than any release before it. Produced by Grammy-award winner David Bianco, whose credits include works ranging from Danzig 1 to Tom Pettyís Wildflowers, Stavesacre is slated to position the band as one of the most legitimate forces in present-day rock music.
